A Useful Tool: RealPlayer

Recommendation: take advantage of RealPlayer (free software) and the availablity of hundreds of good (and free) "A.A. Speaker tapes" available on the Internet.

You can
(1.) play them as streaming audio, or better yet,
(2.) download files, save them to your hard disk and listen to them whenever you wish, and, best of all
(3.) "burn" your own CDs to take with you or give to friends!

Here's how to start:

  • scroll down to this file: MyersR-Iceland
  • place your mouse cursor on that text, right click the mouse button, and select "Save File As" and then choose a place to save it - consider creating an "AA Audios" folder because you will almost certainly get in the habit of doing this.

  • If you don't have "RealPlayer" software, you can download it for free - by going to the website of the Primary Purpose Group of Spartanburg, SC, (a GREAT site worth visiting!) -- scroll down the page, look for the realplayer logo in the right hand column -- see www.aaprimarypurpose.org/rotation/speakers2.htm alternatively, go to the source: www.real.com/
  • Oh. While at the South Carolina site, be sure to download (right click) Charlie P's story -- best intro I've heard for a newcomer: Charlie P., Maysville, Ark., 1986 - "Charlie" of the Joe and Charlie Big Book Tapes tells his story.

  • and then, tune into Chris R., Ingram Texas at the Primary Purpose Group of Dallas' 16th Anniversary 3/04 -- This is a recording of a memorable speaker meeting - Myers introduces Cliff (his sponsor). After giving the history of the PPG, Cliff introduces Chris (Myers' twin brother)

Here's something you don't see every day in AA Literature

The only really valuable AA Literature is the Big Book and perhaps Conference-Approved Literature?

What about this? Here's a fellow who has published papers and books that get my attention after a brief visit to this site.

Glenn F. Chesnut, an ordained United Methodist minister, completed his bachelor of divinity degree at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, then went to Oxford University where he earned a doctorate in theology as a Fulbright scholar. He has won a Prix de Rome in Classics and recognition from the American Society of Church History for his work on Christianity and paganism in the early Greco-Roman world.

He taught at the University of Virginia and Boston University, and is now Professor Emeritus of History and Religious Studies at Indiana University (South Bend).

These things strike me as remarkable: (1) I can understand his writing, and (2) this fellow seems to have a genuine interest in the Fellowship. Given his education, experience and writing skill, this man has something to share with us!

Nationmaster Encyclopedia: Theism

(To visit the source site, either click on the word "visit" below or click here: http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Theism)

Here's an Encyclopedic discussion of Theism that may open some new paths for your consideration:

Theism is the belief in one or more gods or godesses. More specifically, it may also mean the belief in God, a god, or gods, who is/are actively involved in maintaining the Universe.
