"If you are as seriously alcoholic as we were [see Page 21:1&2], we believe there is no middle-of-the-road solution. We were in a position where life was becoming impossible, and if we had passed into the region from which there is no return through human aid, we had but two alternatives: One was to go on the the bitter end, blotting out the counsciousness of our intolerable situation as best we could; and the other, to accept spiritual help." [Steps 3-11]

And if you're a "hard drinker", not a real alcoholic...
If you are that "certain type of hard drinker" described at the bottom of page 20, you may drink a lot, enough to gradually impair yourself physically and mentally so that you may die a few years before your time. BUT..."if a sufficiently strong reason...becomes operative", you can stop or "moderate" your drinking, though it may be difficult and troublesome,
Stay away from my fellowship; get out of my meetings; keep your mouth SHUT.. Do NOT confuse the newcomers who, unlike you, may be "real alcoholics" who NEED the AA 12-Step Program of Recovery to avoid a sad, sad, end. You may be killing them because you never learned what they need to know, so you don't, can't and won't "carry the message" properly! All you do is confuse them so they leave AA and don't come back "because AA doesn't work"! Go away. Have a nice life. Don't kill anybody.
