What kind of "Forum" can we use to help us carry the message?

I just finished an interesting phone conversation with Cliff B. He's wondering if there's a way people scattered across the face of the Earth can somehow begin to communicate with like-minded others.

Do you suppose an Internet website operating with a Content Management System (CMS) like Drupal, the one that powers this site, could become a tool, one of the "spearheads of God's ever advancing Creation"?(AA 49:1)

Forum - isn't that a form of "Discussion Meeting"?

Here's what my dictonary says about "Forum":
1.
a. The public square or marketplace of an ancient Roman city that was the assembly place for judicial activity and public business.
b. A public meeting place for open discussion.
c. A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas, such as a newspaper or a radio or television program.

2. A public meeting or presentation involving a discussion usually among experts and often including audience participation.

I believe Cliff needs a forum like this to run his idea up the flag pole to see if anybody salutes! Why not start here?

Drupal as a collaborative communication tool

To: dgk

Yes, Drupal can provide a perfect medium for the type of collaboration you seem to have in mind (discussion fourms, blogs, groups, submited storys -- the list goes on and on). But then, I might be considered biased since I do drupal setups for a living and I set up this site as well). Drupal.org provides more than "just a CMS". It is more like "community plumbing" -- it has many applications, including the one you seem to have in mind.

Now, back to working on the site...

How about...

Hi

I dropped in for a visit after the link was left in my guestbook at http://www.alcoholismhelp.co.uk/

I like the site, and love Drupal. My site runs on a phpbb based CMS that I'm developing myself, but I'm in the process of configuring Drupal with a view of switching to that instead.

What I'm wondering is if there is a way of combining the forums from several Drupal powered sites spread across the web. Small sites like mine are unlikely to generate enough traffic to keep a forum alive and interesting, but many small sites together may.

Thanks for the site and the work,

Michael

Progress report

I hear Cliff is getting a pretty good response to his e-mail inquiry -- he's compiling a list of group names, contact names, and e-mail addresses submitted by people interested in creating a mutually-supportive bunch of A.A.s using the 'net to solve our common problem.
